Broadwater Health Center (BHC) is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women and 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
Talk to your provider about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member of yours had breast or ovarian cancer. Your provider can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms based on your age and risk factors. It’s important to note too that yearly mammograms are covered by Medicare and most insurance companies.
When your provider is ready to order your mammogram did you know you have the option of requesting where the service is scheduled? For your convenience these services are offered once a month right here at your local hospital.
BHC contracts with Kalispell Regional Medical Center (KRMC) to provide monthly mobile mammography clinics in Townsend. The mobile mammography unit is called The Winkley Women’s Center. The funds for the unit were donated by and named after Jane Winkley, a breast cancer survivor. She made her contribution for the mobile mammography unit to benefit women in all rural areas of Montana, as she said
“No woman should have to wait.”
Women wishing to have a mammogram just need to ob-tain a provider’s referral. With the provider’s referral the screening mammograms will be performed by the Women’s Center Staff aboard their mobile mammography coach. The screens will be electronically sent to their Radiologist to be read. The screen results will then be electronically sent back to your referring provicer who will share the results with you. Ladies wanting to schedule a mammography should consult with their health care provider and have them call 406-266-3186 ext. 132 to set up an appointment.
